The house stands on land purchased by German immigrant farmer Josef Brunner (later alternately spelled 'Bruner' and 'Brooner') in 1746. Brunner purchased of tract land known as "Tasker's Chance" from Frederick Town (current-day Frederick) homesteader Daniel Dulany.
